Matt McGloin, the New BACKUP QB, in Oakland

[ESPNFlynn, acquired to be the franchise quarterback this offseason and paid $6.5 million, had a rough go of it against Washington in getting sacked seven times, fumbling twice and throwing a pick-six. He has been demoted to third string.

Undrafted rookie Matt McGloin is the new backup.

Let’s play a game. Imagine it is October 26th, 2008. Terrelle Pryor just fumbled, costing Ohio State the game against Penn State in Ohio. Penn State fans are rioting and going nuts back in Happy Valley. And in Philly, the Phillies are in the World Series (completely unrelated, but I miss that so much). Ahh, what a great time.

Anyway, we’re rioting at Penn State and I turn to you and say, in five years, almost to the exact day, Terrelle Pryor will be the starting QB for the Oakland Raiders and Matt McGloin will the be his backup.

Your reaction…

But really, congrats to Matty. Work hard, kids, and maximize your capabilities. Good things happen.
