All the Intrigue Shifts to the QB Position, Don’t Rule Vick In and Foles Out Just Yet

Foles lit up Kelly’s Oregon team last year for 398 yards, and Kelly had this to say about Foles after the game:

[TusconCitizen] “I’ll tell you what; I’m glad Nick Foles is graduating,” Oregon coach Chip Kelly said after his team’s 56-31 victory Saturday night.

“I catch myself watching him in awe sometimes. … Nick is a hell of a football player. That kid’s a warrior. He’s as good as anyone in the country.”

Here’s the deal with Vick:

Vick is due to make $15.5 million in base salary next season. The Eagles have until February 6th to cut him, without paying Vick the $3 million that is guaranteed in his deal.

Vick reportedly was not willing to restructure his deal to stay with the team, as of December 29th, but that was before Chip Kelly was the head coach, of course.

Now, there are many different ways Kelly and the Eagles could go at QB. They could tell Vick that if he restructures his deal, he will be the starter. They could draft Geno Smith (although unlikely) with the 4th overall pick to compete with Foles, and/or maybe even start immediately. They could sign a Matt Flynn, or a Alex Smith, to compete with Foles. They could roll with Foles as the starter, and always readdress (draft) the issue after next season, depending on Foles’ success.

Many, many options for Kelly and the Eagles now at QB, but it’s all very intriguing.
