[CourierPost] Meantime, the Flyers likely will name a new captain before the season starts because defenseman Chris Pronger still is out indefinitely.
“Obviously, we’ll have a captain at some point,” Holmgren said.
Officially, Holmgren will discuss the captaincy issue, but realistically star center Claude Giroux is a sure bet to wear the “C.”
Asked about Giroux on Monday, Laviolette said, “Every step for him has been a step in the right direction as an elite player and certainly a tremendous leader for our club. … I think that he certainly has established himself as a terrific leader in our locker room.”

Giroux had some thoughts:
“It’s a big responsibility, obviously, but it’s an honor at the same time,” Giroux said after his first practice back at the Flyers’ facility. “Whatever decision they make, I don’t think it will make a difference on how we play or things in the (dressing) room.
“I’m still going to be the same player on or off the ice. A ‘C’ or no letter, it’s how you play and it’s how the players in the room look at you.”
I mean, as soon as he gets the “C” its over, I don’t care what he says. You thought he dominated last season. Psh. The “C” is just going to give him more confidence and more responsibility, which equals, more domination. Man, this is going to be fun.
Ps. Hockey is back!
