[Sporting News] - As the Los Angeles Clippers made their historic comeback against the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series, there was no one cheering harder than boxer Floyd Mayweather. That’s because Mayweather allegedly wagered $1.8 million on the Clippers, a six-point underdog. According to a tweet cited by various websites, including Black Sports Online, Mayweather’s personal handicapper confirmed that the fighter made $1.8 million worth of bets on the Clippers across seven different sports books. The Clippers trailed by 21 after the third quarter. They closed the gap to six, 96-90, on a Nick Young 3-pointer with 2:15 left in the game. Young hit another 3-pointer with 1:47 remaining to make the score 96-93. Mayweather was winning his bet at that point, and the Clippers went onto win the game outright, 99-98.
Let’s take this story one step at a time here. First – do you realize how awesome it is to be able to casually wager 1.8 MILLION dollars on ANYTHING?! Most people in the world wouldn’t wager 1.8 million that the sun would come up the next day, let alone that the worst team (historically) in the history of the NBA would win the first playoff game that they’ve been in since ’06. Second- the Clippers were down by 27 at one point in the third quarter. 27. Did the Grizzlies hire Juan Castillo as their defensive coordinator for the 4th quarter? Floyd probably turned the game off and went back to tweeting about how much of a pussy Manny Pacquiao is for not fighting him. Third – How BUCK do you think Floyd went when he won this bet? My man probably threw both middle fingers up, started screaming out “Money Ain’t a Thang”, and bought out the bar wherever he was. Definitely was a good night to be a part of his entourage.
