Here’s a video from halftime of the Miami/Chicago game today, of the ESPN NBA guys talking top 5 teams in the eastern conference. Magic Johnson left the Sixers off the list, even thought they are currently 3rd in the conference (and only 2.5 games away from 1st) because of their weak schedule so far. Jon Barry agrees with Magic.
Evan Turner wasn’t happy about it:
Well, here it is. The Sixers, for the non-believers, have their chance to prove themselves over their next 7 games. 6 of those 7 games are home, where the Sixers have been outstanding this season (10-2 at home). Here is their upcoming schedule:
Let’s go to work. 4-3, I think, is a reasonable goal for this 7 game stretch.
In other Sixers news, the Sixers have contacted the Knicks about acquiring Amare Stoudemire. The deal would most likely include Andre Iguodala, who has had his haters among Philly fans during his career, me included. However, Iggy has finally found his role, and is playing the best basketball of his career. Iggy’s point total is down this year, because he realizes he doesn’t need to be an asshole, force three’s, and average 17 points a game anymore. With Turner, Lou Will, Jrue, and Thad, and even Hawes, scoring should not be, and isn’t, Iggy’s top priority. And credit Dougie Fresh for helping and allowing Iggy to realize that. He rebounds, passes, plays well in transition, and most importantly, is the best on-ball defender on the team, maybe conference. Iggy is one of the most underrated players, on one of the most underrated teams in the NBA.
Now, if the deal somehow only included Brand and draft picks for Amare, I’m all for it.
